The most underrated Scout Leader skill is being able to continue a conversation while simultaneously:

Finding a missing woggle.

Lighting an Altar Fire with 1 match.

Answering a question.

And noticing someone doing something suspicious with a tent peg across the field.

Multitasking should be an Olympic sport.

I had a nice read last night before Scouts started 📖🔥

I haven’t read @paulkirtley new book cover to cover yet, so I can’t properly review it. But what I’ve read so far is just as I’d hoped: quality writing, packed with helpful advice, and the lovely photos really help with the step-by-step instructions.

I think it would make a great book for Scout leaders who want to learn some bushcraft skills at their own pace.

I can’t stand reviews written by people who haven’t used the product (or in this case, read the book), so I’ll share more once I’ve properly got stuck in.

Scout Leaders, what’s a Scout Hall management trick that ACTUALLY works?

Not something you learned in a textbook or seen online

Something you discovered over the years as a Scout Leader.

🏕️ Scout Leaders, where’s your favourite campsite?

🏕️ Scout Leaders, where’s your favourite campsite?

Mine’s Hedgerley Scout Campsite in Slough. It’s small and intimate, with a hut that has a kitchen, toilet and a small hall and not forgetting the wood-burning stove (perfect when the weather isn’t playing ball 🔥). The field is comfortably big enough for a troop, and you get the whole site to yourself, with no sharing with other groups.

Add woodland at the back and a campfire circle where I’ve shared countless stories and talked plenty of nonsense over the years, and it’s got real character. It might not be the biggest or fanciest, but that counts for a lot.

So, where’s yours, and why? Drop the name below, I’d love to add some new places to the list! 👇
