Do you try to go on holiday at least once a year? Working around the world, trying to see as much of it as possible? Do you try to avoid UK breaks when you can, worried about the rain, or keen to see more of the world that your own doorstep? This is true for many people, and it’s a shame.

The UK has an awful lot to offer. There’s glorious scenery, rich history, cultural sites, religious history, green, open countryside. There are beaches, forests, mountains and other terrain. There’s plenty to see and learn, yet most of us miss a great deal of it. If you are interested in seeing more of the UK, here are some ways to do it.

Write a List

Lists are great. They give us something to work towards and a reminder when we need it. Write a list of places in the UK, thinking of locations that you’ve seen on TV, locations in movies or books, and places that you’ve read about in travel guides.

Cycle or Hike

Cycling is a great way to see far more of the country. On a bike, you can really appreciate the sites. You can stop wherever you want to, with total flexibility, and you are in control. If you’ve ever wondered, “what is the Lands End to John O’ Groats distance?” Why not find out on your bike? Or go on shorter cycling holidays to different areas that you’ve never seen before.

Hiking is an excellent alternative. You might not get as far as quickly, but you’ll still get a chance to appreciate the world around you. Many people find that hiking breaks are also a great way to meet new people and make friends.

Visit Friends

You might have friends living all over the country, but as we get older, we don’t have time to see our friends as often as we would like.but as we get older, we don’t have time to see our friends as often as we would like.

Make plans to visit your friends, and while you are there, visit local sites and tourist attractions as well as neighbouring towns and cities. Use your visit as a chance to see more of the country, and make a note of anywhere that you pass as you travel, that you’d like to go back to one day.

Hire a Camper Van

Camper vans are a great way to see more of your country. You’ve got somewhere to sleep and everything that you need, you can travel freely, even working on the go if you need to. Hiring a camper van, or even buying one, gives you the chance to travel more spontaneously, seeing far more of your home country, and stopping to take a look whenever you fancy.

Enjoy City Breaks

Many of us go on city breaks abroad, but only on family holidays at home — Head to cities, even those close to where you live for a city break.

Be a Tourist

When you visit somewhere in your home country, you are still a tourist. Look at guides and travel blogs, check out the top attractions and restaurants, and visit tourist hotspots.
