In a major announcement this week, UK Scouts introduced their new Chief Scout, a position held by Bear Grylls for the past 15 years. After much speculation, rumors, and excitement, it was revealed late Thursday night that the 11th UK Chief Scout is none other than Scout Ambassador Dwayne Fields. This news has set the scouting world abuzz, and I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on this monumental shift in leadership.

Having worked alongside him on various events, I can confidently say that he is more than prepared to take on the responsibilities that come with the role. Over the last five or six years, I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Dwayne at scouting events & other events. About five years ago, I had the chance to interview him about his role as a Scout Ambassador. Dwayne’s dedication to the Scouting movement, coupled with his genuine passion for youth development, has always shone through. It’s exciting to see him now take on this new role as Chief Scout.

While I initially thought the UK Scouts might break new ground by appointing the first-ever female Chief Scout, Dwayne’s appointment is a groundbreaking move in its own right. Dwayne’s incredible journey from a tough upbringing to becoming the first youngest black person to reach the North Pole demonstrates that anything is possible with determination and focus. Unlike many who achieve fame, Dwayne doesn’t come from wealth or privilege. His accomplishments are a result of hard work and a desire to give back. He’s proof that if you put your mind to something, you can achieve it.
