Today is Founders Day. The day Scouts around the world pause to remember the man who started it all — Robert Baden-Powell, born on this day in 1857. It’s a day for reflection, for gratitude, and for thinking about what Scouting really means to you.

This year I’ve been thinking about it a little differently.

At the start of 2026 I set up something called the Scout Leaders Postal Patrol — a penpal club for Scout Leaders. The idea is simple. Slow down, pick up a pen, put something real on paper, and build genuine connections the old fashioned way. Letters. Stamps. The whole thing.

And it got me thinking. If I could write to anyone, if I could have any penpal in the world, who would it be?

So this Founders Day, here’s the letter I’d send…………

And if you’re a Scout Leader reading this who loves the idea of sending and receiving real letters , the Scout Leaders Postal Patrol has a spot with your name on it. Because Baden-Powell might not be able to write back, but there are Scout Leaders all around the world who will.
